Description

VISTA Technology Services, Inc. (VISTA) is currently seeking a Research Librarian to support  the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in Durham, NC. This position is required to report on-site M-F. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides reference and research services in person and virtually
  • Conducts comprehensive literature searches in multiple databases (e.g., PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase)
  • Assists with bibliometric reports and visualizations
  • Provides guidance on evidence synthesis, including consultation on database searching, citation management, and evidence synthesis techniques
  • Develops database and library training materials and provides group and one-on one training to NIEHS researchers
  • Assists with marketing of the library and other projects
  • Provides support for Scholarly Communications Librarian
  • Provides support for online researcher profiles and CV systems such as ORCID, Web of Science Researcher Profiles, and NCBI Bibliographies
  • Creates and distributes annual customer satisfaction survey and summarizes results
  • Stays current with trends in health sciences librarianship, evidence synthesis methodologies, and scholarly communications
  • Actively pursues professional development by participating in professional library organizations, and attending conferences, training and webinars relative to their position
  • Works collaboratively and collegially to support the Vision, Mission, and Strategic Goals of the NIEHS by supporting its researchers

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master of Library Science (MLS), Master of Information Science (MIS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program
  • Three (3) years of experience providing reference services in a research or academic library setting
  • Experience using multiple databases (e.g., PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase) to conduct literature searches
  • Experience providing library instruction or teaching
  • Interest in environmental/health sciences
  • Adept at coordinating work efforts in a highly collaborative team environment with the capacity to thrive in both independent and team-based settings
  • Strong service orientation with excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Proficient using MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an active Federal Public Trust Clearance
  • Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to NIEHS Library in Durham, NC

Desired Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of experience or formal coursework related to information resources on health sciences or relevant subjects
  • One (1) year of experience conducting or supporting evidence synthesis projects, such as systematic reviews, including developing search strategies and using review management software
  • Experience with citation management tools (e.g., EndNote)
  • Experience utilizing databases and resources relevant to health sciences, such as PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library
  • Familiarity with scientific publishing practices, scholarly communications, and research impact metrics
  • Professional interest in emerging technology trends, such as generative AI
